“I Do” – Flash Fiction

By Patrick on October 29, 2009 in Fiction

Below is a 100 word horror story I wrote for an anthology, but missed the deadline to submit.

I Do

The eternal love we pledged at the altar was a vow I had fully meant to keep.  But now, I find it very difficult.  I am standing at her grave, holding flowers for her headstone and watching her tattered corpse rise from the soil.  Her pale dirty hands outstretch and reach towards me.  Her boney feet shuffle forward.  A guttural groan comes from her torn throat, and her teeth click together in anticipation of flesh.  Still, I remember my vows.  When my wife’s arms reach out to grab at my neck, I move forward for one last embrace.
